The Best Day Care Equipment
When it comes to cognitive childhood development, some of the most influential years occur while children are in day care, or at least at the age when they can attend. However, unfortunately common occurrence in early education is the inability of the educator to answer those “big” questions that children ask in a way that children understand. For this reason, one of the most important pieces of day care equipment is the educator himself!
If you are an employee at a day care, or an educator of young children, experts in childhood development recommend you brush up on academic essentials like mathematics and English. Likewise, try and invest some time in learning about the causes of the various natural occurrences in which children are interested. As silly as it sounds, the question “Why is the sky blue?” is a heavy one. If you answer vaguely or with hesitation, you may inadvertently reinforce a sadly prevalent notion that “big” questions are not important or lack interest. Instead of stunting a child’s intellectual development without ever meaning to, outline answers to big questions to best of your ability, and allow children to fill in the blanks by asking more questions. Finally, don’t feel pressured to appease the constant chorus of “Why?” that may sound when you converse with a child. Push them in a gentle way to add something to the conversation - they could have a unique take on things!
You’ll notice children who ask questions early on in their development are children that excel in most aspects of life. This is because asking questions obliges the child to think critically, and understand the answers in a larger context. It’s fun and exciting to have brightly colored day care equipment and toys, but at the end of the day, helping the children grow intellectually is a far more rewarding activity.
